Funds for Historic Buildings

  Fund Name THE CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

  Programme Name
  PARISH PUMPS PRIMING AWARDS

Summary of Funding   The Conservation Foundation was founded in 1982 to provide a means for people in public, private and not-for-profit sectors to collaborate on environmental causes. Parish Pump Priming Awards was launched in 2002 by the Foundation in response to requests to fund the initial stage of local environmental projects.

Eligible Applicants   The scheme is designed primarily for members of The Conservation Foundation's Parish Pumps network. This network of individuals provides the focus for environmental news and information in local communities across the country.  The Parish Pump network is open to anyone who is active in the community and committed to enhancing the built and natural environment and the Priming Awards are intended for groups that have identified a local environmental project in need of funding to progress it from the "idea" stage.

Geographical Coverage   Anywhere in the UK.

Eligibility Criteria   Any local community environmental project, which can encompass work on historic buildings.

Other Considerations   There is no subscription. Anyone is welcome to join the Parish Pump network. Whilst it is hoped that eventually every parish will have a Pump, there is no limit on the number of Pumps per parish. To join, simply contact the Foundation.

Further Information   This grant scheme has been made possible by donations from the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust, which is supporting projects in rural parishes, and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation (see separate entry) which supports urban projects.

AHF Comment   While the focus of the programme is environmental, this can encompass repairs to historic buildings. For example, recent awards have included grants to preservation trusts (to renovate the buildings and conserve the sites on which they stand) and to churchyards (for clearing, maintenance and repairing some of the gravestones, so as to provide an attractive, safe green spce within a busy urban environment).
