Maintain our Heritage
| "Maintain" is an advice service being offered by "Maintain our Heritage", a new not-for-profit organisation operating on the principle that systematic maintenance is the key to sustainable care of historic buildings. The service offers owners of historic buildings: an inspection of areas critical for maintenance, by independent historic building experts; a report on priorities for maintenance work; an explanation of the report; the carrying out of a limited amount of on-the-spot first aid repair where the inspection reveals small but critical areas of disrepair. There is a small charge for the service, starting at £150, depending on the size and complexity of the building. At the present time the service is being offered as a pilot for a national scheme. The pilot, which began in the summer of 2002 and will continue until the spring of 2003, is presently limited to listed buildings in the area of Bath and North East Somerset. For a free pre-inspection visit (to assess the likely extent and cost of the actual inspection) call Maintain on 0800 298 7539. Maintain is partnered by Bath Preservation Trust which helped in the formation of the Maintain and has been closely involved in the developing and funding of the pilot project. The pilot has been made possible by a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. The website (see above) contains useful links to the websites of a number of other organisations with an interest in the provision of maintenance and special services to historic buildings, including the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. |
